One of the big concerns users have with wearable technology such as smart watches is battery life, that is, how long can a user wear the device without having to take it off to recharge.
That’s certainly one of the concerns potential buyers of Apple’s Apple Watch — projected for release in the first few months of 2015 — will need to have answered before splurging on the $ 349-and-up device.
Some details about the expected battery life of the watch are starting to emerge, however, with 9To5Mac reporting this week that although Apple is advising the Apple Watch will need to be charged on a nightly basis, the watch should be able to withstand at least 2.5 hours of continuous, or “heavy”, use on a single charge.
According to 9To5Mac, Apple has been “stress testing” the battery life of its upcoming product by testing with various different applications, and that’s how the company has arrived at the reported figure of 2.5 hours of “heavy” use or 3.5 hours of “standard” use. Of course, standby time will extend the overall charge time of the device. The publication also reports that concerns over battery life on the Apple Watch were among the factors that prompted Apple to delay release of the Apple watch from its originally planned late-2014 release to the upcoming early-2015 release.
Although no official release date for Apple Watch has been set yet, many analysts expect to see the device to hit the market by late March.
